Misty Decker is a certified nurse-midwife. Who grew up in Sierra Vista Arizona and graduated from Buena High School. She is the mother to 4 wonderful children. She always had a passion for helping others by working in health care. She began as a registered nurse graduating from Mesa Community College in 1992. She worked in various areas of health care from school nursing to home health and eventually women’s health spending more than 15 years on the Labor and Delivery unit. She furthered her education with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration from Wayland Baptist University in 2001 while continuing to work on the Labor and Delivery unit. She later advanced her passion for women’s health receiving a Master’s Degree in Midwifery from the Midwifery Institute of Philadelphia University in 2012.
As a new graduate midwife, Misty worked in collaboration with physicians in a busy medical practice gaining experience and eventually the expertise to open an independent Midwifery practice Desert Blossom Midwifery. Here Misty’s goal was to provide women with a personalized, patient focused experience. She feels privileged to participate in the care, planning and management of women during pregnancy, birth and all stages of life. Today, she is pleased to join the Canyon Vista Medical group as part of a cohesive team of midwives and physicians to provide collaborative, evidence based, patient focused care for the women of our community.
Misty is certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board, the National Certification Corporation in Inpatient Obstetrics and advanced fetal monitoring. Misty is also a certified surgical first assist, allowing her to maintain continentality of care when need for surgical intervention arises. Misty remains current by active participation and membership in the American College of Nurse Midwives, the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecologist and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses.
Misty’s approach is patient centered, she works with each patient’s condition, history and desires to provide rewarding, evidence-based care. She sees her role with women and families as a partnership to ensure not only a healthy outcome but an empowering experience. Childbirth is personal, every women’s birth should be an experience she remembers fondly, she should always feel heard and be an active participant in her care.
Misty welcomes new and return patients with her personal style. She cares for expectant mothers but also extends her caring approach, serving women of all ages with routine gynecological care, birth control options, family planning, menopause transition, hormone replacement and bioidentical hormones.
